A CHALKER CHRONICLES BARFDAY SPECIAL

I've been hoarding a bunch of iFin and gopro clips. All clips were filmed with no real purpose than to just document my friends enjoying life and having more fun than anyone else. It was our favorite Rad Dad skate blogger and resident scumbag, Isaac Kenyon's barfday a few months back and I thought why not throw together a TWERK edit to show some love to the OG triple OG. So I present to you all A TWERKIN' TWENTIES GYPSISODE: A CHALKER CHRONICLES BARFDAY SPECIAL" Happy BARFDAY old man and go DUBS!

A Patchy Bearded 12 Yr Old: The 5th Comeback

It was Gabriel Zavala's 32nd Birthday on Tuesday and he enlisted me to help him film 32 clips skating around Santa Rosa, Ca. I've known this dude for a long time or better yet this dude has known me since I was about 10 or 12, just a young grom trying to play s.k.a.t.e. at the old Hood Parking lot. So of course I was down to film him skating for his Birthday. We met up at the Hood and I was taken aback when he started gripping a new board. I was like, "HE's getting serious today!"We started off at his old stomping grounds of Bennett Valley to skate the ledge behind Safeway. I was really surprised to see that the ledge was still waxed when we got there. It was hard to get Gabe started at 1st cuz he really didn't have a game plan, he kept getting distracted by technology or would use the excuse of "I'm re-learning all these tricks." Once he got the muscles loose and his slides sliding he filmed 8 tricks at the 1st spot. WOOO! It was looking good, the tricks were fast and loud and he had 24 more tricks to go. I wanted to get a clip of Gabe at the Ivy gap but I felt he was trying to avoid ollieing it cuz he had said on the way there, "I hope there's a lot of cars in the way..." so I already knew going there was gonna be a bust but I still wanted to see if he'd do it or at least get him motivated to do it. But we get there and Sergio must have called one of his friends to park in that lot cuz the only car that was there was right in front of the gap so he got lucky and didn't have to take the 32 yr old leap of faith. But we caught a break with Moe calling us cuz he had a school yard with a lot of cool things to skate and nothing was too big or gnarly so Gabe had no excuse to not get clips here. I think we had sat down too long cuz Gabe's back and knee started getting sore but he didn't let that stop him from gettig shreddy and clocking some tricks at the spot. It was rad having Moe, Jose and little Mateo there as a support team. Mateo would do a trick 1st try in front of Gabe's face and that got him fired up to do some shuv its and 180s. We got some cool lily pad tricks with the help of tag teaming Moe and Mateo in to do some stunts and Gabe even managed to film a line with only a few tries. Thanks to Moe for showing us the spot and talking shit to get the OG motivated. After that spot we were Rosa Park Bound. Gabe's extremely neurotic and thinks ahead so he knew going to Rosa Park would be good for the edit cuz there'd be homies to tag in and land some stunts. We get to the park and get hyped cuz we see that Rusczyk's car was in the lot. If anyone can get Gabe motivated I felt it could be Mike. But that was not the case. Technology kept distracting the 32 yr old and maybe it was the 4 pieces of bacon he had eaten at brunch that was weighing him down but whatever the case, Gabe's energy started to waiver. But ya can't blame em cuz it must've been past his bed time anyhow. It was a good thing Jesse Palmer, Mikey Smialek, and Anthony Celeri were there to film some stunts on Pat's badass pykrete bench. We managed to film the bulk of the edit there with a trick count of just over 50. Wooo! So we called it a day because the ol' man was getting tired and hungry. It was fun running around with Gabe all day for his birthday, it felt like the old North Coast days, skating in the parking lot and talking mad shit about Gabe's beard. Thanks to all who helped out with filming some tricks and to Gabe for actually getting out there and wanting to shred the streets. You old dude's give us youngins hope for the future of the shred sled. Gabe mentioned he's never filmed a full part and that all his footy he's ever filmed went straight into montages which blew my mind seeing that he's got so many filmer friends. So this is like his 1st actual part or maybe just a Patchy Bearded 12 Yr old's attempt at a sponsor me Tape for Don Brown or Dave Keagy. But really filming parts and sponsor me tapes are fun but we all know we just do this FOR THE LOVE of it. HAPPY BIRTHDAY BILLY GABE! Thank you skateboarding.

Your Mom Recycles

As skateboarders, we all tend to look at the world and our surroundings a bit differently than our peers. We try to make the best of any spot, surface or situation. We share the common goal of making something skateable. The other day while out searching for skate spots we ended up at the usual school yard in suburbia. But instead of skating the hallways and quad like we usually do, we ventured to the back of the school where there's a small asphalt wave that is always breaking to the right. This wave is really tight and the waters back there are always choppy so if you're not careful you can get thrashed pretty hard. The whole time we spent shredding this wave we failed to notice this trash receptacle sitting atop the asphalt wave. Someone had placed their belongings on it so it looked like a prime spot for that. But being the hyperactive skate rats we all are we just had to flip the thing over and skate it. And skate it we did. The thing was no cake walk to step up to because of it's awkward height and short length. It's tall and short so it made for a quick grind or bonk. There was no need for wax either cuz it's made of Pykrete, which is a sawdust and rubber composite, so it's slick like butter. It's pretty funny cuz there are all these sayings and recycle friendly words embossed all over the thing, my favorite ones being, "Your Mom Recycles" and "Recycle...or else I'll slap you!" We ended up skating the thing for a good while and even managed to snap some cool photos a la Phil Philms. So with all that being said Happy Mother's day and go out there and turn some trash cans over and skate that shit!

YUNG ADIDAS SKATE COPA

The Hood Team was lucky enough to participate in the North West Regionals of The Adidas Skate Copa contest in Portland, Oregon. I really did not wanna go because I was feeling a bit like Tom Broke-Off that week but after a talk with Nards and Mikey, yer boy was swayed and packing for PDX! We all met up on a Thursday morning at the hood around 9:30am and left there around 10am. The van was full of Rosa Talent with Shane Schueler, Jordan Bunce & Eddy Higuera held down the 1st row, 2nd row was Mike Minard, Mikey Smialek & Yung Trap Lord, Phil Philms and all his gear cramping my leg space, I was in the back representing the Trap Trunk Boyz with Antonio Gilmore and yung Baby Bladder, Ryan Sanders, with Jon Lohne, Austin Funk, and Eddy rotating as VL drivers. We made a stop at Corning Skatepark to stack some last minute park clips before crossing state lines. After Corning it was onward to Portland we went. We spotted a rail on the side of the freeway and the whole van hopped out to watch Baby Boots try and slide the beast but lo and behold the fuzz was called and killed our vibe. We made a stop off in Albany for a night to chill and crash at Jon's childhood friend, Manny's place. The next day we awoke in Albany to some coffee and donuts thanks to Manny. Mikey, Austin, Toan and I played a game of skate in which Toan took the cake and 10 bucks that unbeknownst to him at the time would go toward the impending Loco Moco epic meal time we'd enjoy in Portland. Getting to Portland it was a bit hairy trying to book a hotel. The 1st place we tried was a bust cuz they're hot tub was non-functioning. But once we found a spot it was on, IU think it was a Best Western that we settled on. This place was the jam, had a pool and hot tub room, a phone next to the shitter, TV's, and a mean continental breakfast with a ill waffle maker to boot! When we finally got to Silas' park, The Grotto, it was just mayhem. There was carcasses being hucked left and right. The course was heated with hungry ass dudes just trying to one up each other. It was a pretty hectic practice session. Aside from dodging fools in the park, the park was dusty & slippery as fuck which made it that much harder to skate, but we still crushed it and had fun during the practice session. The next day was all business. We decided that Eddy would give up his spot to Baby Boots so the dudes repping were Jon, Austin, Mike Minard, Shane and Boots. The 1st jam was legit. Dudes were killing it straight out the gate and Tim O'Connor was feeling the squad! The second jam was not as happening but the dudes still had fun. After the Copa we checked out Burnside for a minute to clock a few clips. Burnside is no fucking joke and the locals will let you know right off the bat if you're kooking out. As long as you were ripping, the locs were cool. After Burnside we went to this loading dock gap that Jon fs flipped on his last trip to PDX. The boys clocked some just as it starting to rain but that really didn't stop Mike, Eddy, Austin or Shane, who all got some rad rain/shred photos. The next day we skated all around downtown Salem filming as many clips as we could before hitting the road again. Thanks again to Manny for having us over, to The Boardr, Adidas and Silas Baxter-Neal for putting on a fun weekend and hooking us up, to Austin, Eddy and Jon for driving, to Jordan and Philms for pressing the red button and to Katy Perry for recording "Dark Horse." Make sure to head over to Jordan Bunce Photo's site to peep the trip in photographic form.
